At Sightsavers, our EGMs summarise, appraise, and present evidence from systematic or literature reviews.
The glaucoma EGM summarises evidence from 104 reviews. Most reviews (43) address treatment of glaucoma, followed by risk or prevention of glaucoma (23). Of the remainder, 14 reviews look at screening of glaucoma, 13 cover quality of health care services, four look at quality of life, three address epidemiology, two look at cost benefit, one addresses quality of care outside health care and one looks at technology.
This evidence gap map shows that there are clear gaps in evidence at the health-systems sector level. No reviews were identified around access to glaucoma services.
56 reviews provide strong evidence in response to the authors’ research questions; 29 reviews show inconclusive evidence, and in 19 reviews the results are weak. 51 reviews are graded low methodological quality, 28 reviews are medium quality, and 25 reviews are graded high quality.
