    Trachoma evidence gap map

Ophthalmic nurseSuraju screens community members' eyes for trachoma.

    What this map shows

At Sightsavers, our EGMs summarise, appraise, and present evidence from systematic or literature reviews.

The trachoma EGM summarises evidence from 16 reviews. Eight reviews address risk factors/prevention of trachoma, and four address treatment of trachoma. Of the remainder, two look at quality of clinical care, one addresses case detection and one looks at epidemiology.

This gap map shows that there are clear gaps in evidence at the health-systems sector level and in impact/economic evaluation. In addition, no reviews were identified on the following service delivery aspects: quality of non-clinical care and access to health care services.

In response to the authors’ research questions, eight reviews show strong evidence and eight reviews show inconclusive evidence. Seven reviews are graded as low methodological quality, six are of medium methodological quality and three are of high quality.
