Comparison of health service access by disability status in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review

Main objectives

The primary objective of this systematic review is to quantitatively describe how access to health services differs between people with and without disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa. The secondary objective is to identify the factors associated with those differences.

Overview

This systematic review will answer the following questions:

  • What is the extent and quality of available evidence around health service access for people with disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa?
  • Does access to health services differ for people with disabilities compared to people without disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa?
  • What factors are associated with differences in access to health services among people with disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa?
  • What frameworks and tools have been used to classify and measure access to health care for people with disabilities, in studies conducted in sub-Saharan Africa?

Added value of the study

As well as providing an up-to-date summary of the evidence in the area, this review will provide information about the frameworks and factors being explored in this area of research; and the tools and metrics being used in these studies.
