Quality of life, cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis of provision of spectacles (Liberia II)

Main objectives

The study aims to answer the following research questions:

  • What is the impact of provision of spectacles on the quality of life of school-aged children?
  • What are the costs and cost-effectiveness of school-based screening and provision?
  • What are the implications of the school-based screening programmes delivered at scale for national education and health budgets?

Added value of the study

Improved knowledge on the cost and affordability of school health programmes and estimating the impact of these programmes will support better programming and advocacy.

Policy and practice implications

The aim of this study was to estimate the cost of integrating vision screening and provision of spectacles in existing school health programmes in Liberia. Budget impact analysis of the intervention scale up is also reported. Finally, we assessed the variation in quality of life of children receiving spectacles.
