This article reports on the prevalence of sight-threatening conditions and access to eye care services among people aged 50 years and older with diabetes mellitus in Sohag governorate, Upper Egypt.
The results showed that the prevalence of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus in the region was higher than the national prevalence, and a high prevalence of sight-threatening retinopathy and/or maculopathy with few people having access to diabetic eye care, recommending a public health approach for health promotion, early detection and management of diabetic retinopathy.
