The community drug distributor passport: a case study of training and recognition in Chad

Summary

This paper explores the development and piloting of the community drug distributor (CDD) passport in Chad, an innovative tool designed to strengthen the training and recognition of volunteer CDDs delivering mass drug administration for neglected tropical diseases. Developed by Sightsavers in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Chad and OPC (Organisation pour la Prévention de la Cécité), the passport provided practical guidance on CDD roles and responsibilities while formally recognising their contribution to community health.

Findings suggest improvements in knowledge, motivation and community trust, demonstrating how recognition and capacity strengthening can enhance programme delivery and support broader health system goals.
